Almond market access and trade development 2023 – 2026 (AL22004)

Key research provider: Almond Board of Australia
Publication date: Friday, February 13, 2026

What was it all about?

This project strengthened market access and demand for Australian almonds during a period of global volatility, high supply and pricing pressure. Over three years, it helped protect Australia’s competitive position in key export markets, supported strong export growth and rebuilt domestic demand after COVID-19. By the end of the project, exports made up a larger share of total sales and Australian almonds were firmly positioned as a reliable, premium product in global markets.

The project focused on coordinated market access management, trade engagement and demand development. Activities included monitoring tariffs and regulatory requirements, representing industry interests with governments, and delivering outbound and inbound trade missions. Australian almonds were promoted through major international trade shows, buyer visits to Australian growing regions, and targeted trade, food and health professional education programs. Market research, performance reporting and upgraded trade websites supported better decision-making and industry capability.

Through these efforts growers can expect more resilient export pathways, diversified demand across major and emerging markets, and improved industry readiness to respond to future market or regulatory changes. This supports long-term value, reduced risk and more sustainable growth for the Australian almond industry.
