Strategic Agrichemical Review Process (SARP) 2023 updates (MT23001)
What was it all about?
This project updated the Strategic Agrichemical Review Process (SARP) reports for 13 horticulture industries, giving growers and industry a current, clear picture of pest pressures and available chemical control options.
The updated reports confirmed priority pests for each crop and highlighted where existing control options are limited or at risk. This gives industries a stronger, evidence-based foundation for planning future pest management and chemical access.
The project reviewed diseases, insects and weeds affecting each crop and assessed the effectiveness and availability of registered fungicides, insecticides and herbicides. It identified gaps where control options are insufficient and pointed to potential new or alternative products. The work was informed by online industry surveys, targeted workshops and direct consultation with industry representatives.
The updated SARP reports guide industries on where to pursue new registrations or minor use permits through the APVMA. Over time, this will support better pest management, protect productivity, and help ensure growers retain access to effective and sustainable crop protection options.
