Mushroom international study tours – inbound and outbound (MU22010)

Key research provider: Australian Mushroom Growers’ Association
Publication date: Monday, December 1, 2025

What was it all about?

This project strengthened skills, knowledge and industry connections across the Australian mushroom sector through a targeted program of inbound and outbound study tours. It gave growers, compost producers and key staff access to leading local and international expertise in mushroom production, composting, farm hygiene and integrated pest and disease management. Participants reported improved confidence, practical learning and stronger professional networks that can be applied directly on farm.

The project delivered three inbound programs in Australia and two outbound programs overseas. Inbound activities included hands‑on workshops, farm visits and an online hygiene webinar series, led by recognised experts. Topics covered compost production, crop and harvest management, farm hygiene, and integrated pest and disease management. Outbound programs provided partial scholarships for industry personnel to attend an international growers’ conference and a specialist compost masterclass in Europe. Learnings were shared back with industry through MushroomLink articles, the AMGA Journal, recorded webinars, and a detailed IPDM resource booklet.

The project will support ongoing adoption of improved practices, stronger pest and disease management, and better decision‑making across the industry. It is expected to contribute to more efficient, profitable and sustainable mushroom production, while building capability and leadership for future challenges.
