Vegetable high school education resources (VG23010)
What was it all about?
This project delivered a new suite of high-quality, curriculum‑aligned education resources to improve how vegetable production, nutrition and careers are taught in Australian high schools.
The resources address a clear gap in Years 7–10 teaching materials and created practical tools that increase teacher confidence while improving student understanding of the modern vegetable industry. The project also strengthened industry visibility by showcasing real‑world production systems, sustainability practices and career pathways.
The project developed six themed teaching units aligned to the Australian Curriculum, supported by lesson plans, student activities, teacher guides and multimedia content. A Virtual Reality farm tour was produced to give students immersive access to a commercial vegetable supply chain, from growing and harvesting through to processing and packing. All resources were made freely available through a central online hub, Fresh Food Schools, alongside teacher professional development webinars to support classroom use.
These resources are expected to build long‑term awareness of the vegetable industry, support future workforce development, and strengthen demand by improving food system knowledge. Growers and industry can also use the materials for school engagement, outreach and community education.
